UK Visa Applications
Applications made from outside the UK, and applications made from inside it.
For anyone who needs to know whether to apply for entry clearance from overseas or to extend, switch or settle from inside the UK.
Services within UK Visa Applications
Where you apply from changes the requirements, the evidence and sometimes the route itself. Two people with similar circumstances can need different applications.
We identify the correct route first, then help you prepare the application and documents around it.
What we check on any visa application
- Whether the route matches what you actually intend to do in the UK.
- Whether the matter is straightforward and within our IAA Level 1 authorisation.
- Financial, accommodation and English-language requirements for the route.
- Whether switching inside the UK is permitted from your current permission.
- When your current permission ends, so the application is made in time.
Your immigration history matters
If you have overstayed, breached a condition, been refused before or been removed from the UK, tell us at the start. Matters like these can take an application outside our Level 1 authorisation, and we will say so and signpost you rather than take it on.
How WLIS can help
- 1 We check that the route suits your plans and that the matter is a straightforward one within our IAA Level 1 authorisation.
- 2 We review your eligibility and your documents, and explain plainly anything that needs attention.
- 3 We give you a document checklist written for your circumstances rather than a generic one.
- 4 We prepare the application form and supporting documents, and you check and approve the final information before anything is submitted.
- 5 We help with submission, biometrics or identity steps, and your eVisa and UKVI account after the decision.
What we can and cannot help with
We provide advice and application assistance for straightforward immigration matters within our IAA Level 1 Immigration authorisation. Where a matter falls outside that authorisation — for example because it involves adverse immigration history, a discretionary or human-rights claim, an administrative review, an appeal or tribunal work — we will tell you and signpost or refer you to an adviser authorised at the appropriate level.
If an application is refused, we will explain the decision and whether any further work remains within our Level 1 authorisation. Where an administrative review, an appeal or other higher-level casework is needed, we will signpost or refer you to an appropriately authorised adviser. We do not provide appeal or tribunal representation.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) makes the final decision on every application. No immigration adviser can guarantee that an application will be approved.
Questions clients often ask
Should I apply from outside the UK or from inside it?
That depends on the permission you hold now and the route you want. Someone with no current UK permission normally applies for entry clearance from abroad; someone already here with valid permission may be able to extend or switch without leaving. An application made in the wrong place is usually refused rather than transferred, so the choice matters.
Can I switch to another route without leaving the UK?
Some routes allow it and some do not. Visitors, for example, generally cannot switch inside the UK, while a student with a qualifying job offer often can. We check the switching rules for your route before anything is submitted.
What happens if my permission runs out while I am waiting for a decision?
If you applied before your existing permission expired, your conditions usually continue while the application is decided. This is often called section 3C leave. It does not apply if the application was made late — and a late application is not something we can take on at Level 1, so apply in time.
